Sooman Lee, SM Entertainment’s executive producer, a ‘magic’ in the entertainment industry, will become a research professor in the School Of Computing at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).
Executive Producer Lee will take special lectures in leadership courses at undergraduate and graduate schools and advise on metaverse research. With this appointment as a research professor, KAIST plans to strengthen collaboration with SM Entertainment to develop metaverse content.
On February 25, KAIST announced that it had appointed this executive producer as a research professor in the School Of Computing for three years, from March 1 to 2025. So, executive Producer Sooman Lee said, “I am grateful for the opportunity to meet students as a professor at KAIST, the birthplace of Korean science and technology. So, we will work together to lead the way.”
Executive Producer Lee received a master’s degree in computer science from the University of California, Northridge, USA. This appointment aims to wake the ‘Metaverse Research Business Agreement.’
It was under the agreement between KAIST and SM Entertainment in June last year. So, the goal is to invite creators who have led the Korean wave culture in the global entertainment market as professors. This will help develop technology and collaborate to lead the future entertainment market.
The metaverse research in which this general producer participates is interdisciplinary, jointly conducted at the Metaverse Research Center (tentative name). It is installed under the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research Institute. A KAIST official said, “We plan to help SM Entertainment preempt the global metaverse market. Also, we will enhance content and technology using celebrity avatars.”
